Eye Spy!

Eye Spy with my little eye..... new eyeglasses! Okay, okay... that was cheesy even for me, but I'm very excited to tell you about my experience purchasing prescription eyeglasses!

I am an avid online shopper. I will buy just about everything I can on the Internet. I love that shopping online means never having to put on real pants, find a parking space, or wait in line at the checkout. Those reasons are enough for me, but it doesn't hurt that shopping online also often means better prices and more variety.

But...I've always been nervous about purchasing eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses online without being able to try them on in person. While the prices are amazing, I have always wondered about the quality of the glasses themselves. I was also intimidated by the ordering process and getting my prescription right.

As I'm sure you can imagine, I was thrilled when GlassesShop.com contacted me and asked if I would do a review of their prescription glasses. The offer could not have come at a better time because I had just made an appointment with my eye doctor.

After my appointment, I requested a copy of my prescription. My prescription had changed and I chose to upgrade the lenses in my current frames with my current eye care professionals. I wanted to be able to compare the quality to GlassesShop.com so I would be able to compare the quality of the lenses and the frames to my new eyeglasses.

Cat-eye frames intimidate me. I've always loved the look, but felt that I couldn't pull them off every day. As GlassesShop.com was providing this pair to me for review, I felt more comfortable branching out and getting "fun" frames. GlassesShop.com has an amazing assortment of cat-eye frames!

The first thing I noticed about the site is that it is user friendly and the ordering process is super easy. There is a huge selection to choose from and you can search by shape, material, frame style, size and even color. This feature helped me narrow down the selection to frames I would be interested in.

If you already have a pair of glasses that you like, I recommend looking at your current glasses for the size of the frame. This is usually written on the inside of the temple arm. The first number refers to the width of a single lens. The second number is the width of the nose bridge. The last number refers to the length of the temple arms. I also recommend measuring the width of your current glasses. Once you have your measurements, you can use the search filters for the most appropriate width, lens width and height for glasses that will be a good fit!  Each pair of frames on the site includes a full description of the dimensions like the example below:

I was really impressed with GlassesShop.com's Virtual "Try It On" feature! Using this feature, you can upload a photo of yourself or use one of the stock images they offer to try on frames to see what they would look like on your face. What made GlassesShop.com stand out from the others is that you can rotate, resize and change the pupillary distance.

The prescription was the part I was the most nervous about. I wanted to be sure that my new lenses were correct. Be sure to request your pupillary distance from your ophthalmologist's office!

My glasses arrived in a protective plastic case with a lens-safe cloth. I was in love minute I opened the case. I tried them on immediately and the fit was awesome. I compared them to my regular glasses and there was no difference in the quality of the lenses. I can even switch between pairs without any kind of weirdness or headaches. The frames are lightweight but they are definitely a bold statement and I've gotten a ton of compliments on them.

Now, I have a confession to make. I've had these glasses since August. I'd hope to wear them for a month and write a review and the unfortunate truth is that time just kind of ran away from me. There is a silver lining though. I've really gotten a chance to give these glasses a thorough test run and I have to say, I'm thrilled with them. My GlassesShop.com glasses have become the glasses I wear every day. They are amazing. They lenses have remained scratch free even though I've dropped them and sometimes use my shirt to wipe off my lenses. But the thing that impressed me the most? I was babysitting and one of my sister's twins stepped on my frames. Now, the way she stepped on them should have been enough to break them. I panicked, but when I picked them up they were perfect and didn't have so much as a scratch. Anything that can survive my sister's toddlers is a win for me!
